Balzan FC issue clarification on players whereabouts, Naxxar cancel all training activities amid COVID-19 cases

Balzan FC have denied reports that suggested that members of their first-team squad had been at club’s restaurant in the last few days.

The statement was issued on the back of the news that three Balzan FC players had tested positive for COVID-19 and there were rumours that they visited the Balzan FC clubhouse.

“We would like to clarify the situation regarding the cases mentioned today in the Covid-19 report with reference to Balzan Football club,” the Premier League club said in a statement.

“None of the Balzan FC players have been at the restaurant in the last few months. The Balzan FC team was on a training camp for the past week in a seaside hotel, and that is where all the cases have been found and not at the club house in Balzan.

“Our restaurant is still operating under the highest degree of sanitisation and we have no connection whatsoever with the cases mentioned.

“No one from our staff has been in contact with any of the persons that are involved and that are now being tested.”

Naxxar player tests positive

Meanwhile, Division One Naxxar Lions have cancelled all their training activites until further notice after one player from the senior team has tested positive for Covid-19.

“The player is in good health and has been in self isolation since he first showed symptoms,” the club said in a statement on their official social media.

“The club has taken all precautionary measures and all those who attended training with the same player from two days before have been asked to self isolate and get tested.

Naxxar Lions Club Doctor Chris Deguara is in close contact with the health authorities to make sure that no players or staff members test positive.”

The club added that when the go ahead from the health authorities is received and are reassured that all players and staff members are well and healthy, training will resume.
